  • Defenders of Wildlife

I received, as i hope you do, Defenders of Wildlife valuable emails, and I supported their environmental conservation and mitigation work with anonymous donations for years. In 2008, when they were vigorously opposing then Governor Sarah Palin’s insane aerial wolf slaughter campaign, I broke my anonymity and wrote a personal thank you note to this venerable agency. Within a day, CEO/President Rodger Schlickeisen was asking me to narrate television commercials Defender’s creating and airing in states in which the VP candidate would be campaigning. I was filming Helen in Vancouver, BC, at the time, and with an assist from remarkable modern digital technology, I was able to record the voice over in my trailer with the film’s sound crew (who was very grateful, in their own small way, to oppose Palin’s wolf slaughter), who emailed it to Defenders. In days, these effective, crucial spots were airing on TV, letting voters know about Palin’s atrocious environmental practices (not to mention her heinous disregard for animals themselves). Rodger and I were asked to appear on Larry King Live, (provide link). Typical for me ~ one day, I was a committed anonymous internet supporter of Defenders, next day, I am on CNN discussing Defender’s work. I was asked to join the Board of Directors, and humbly accepted. This board is the most engaged of any I know. The level of expertise and weekly in depth policy discussion is amazing. Defenders and its staff and board continue to provide crucial leadership and action toward protecting and conserving the environment, habitats, and animals, and I grateful to be walking and learning alongside them. I hope you’ll visit the web site, donate, and consider the actions you can take in your own community to offset and reverse global climate change, and its deleterious affects on habitats and animals.
